DarkSide is an application screen saver that requires System 7. DarkSide gives you a high degree of compatibility, along with using very little of your system's resources.
DarkSide is freeware, which means that you can use it yourself or give copies away to anyone you wish, but that the rights are retained by the author, Tom Dowdy. For more information on the restrictions for DarkSide, please see the documentation.
Documentation
DarkSide is a Macintosh application, and as such should be easy to use without documentation. It also contains full balloon help. However, complete documentation is available via the web at <http://www.poubelle.com/>. In addition, this web site always contains the latest version of DarkSide, a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ) about DarkSide, and other useful information.
DarkSide in your language
Included with this version of DarkSide are some localized versions of the DarkSide application for various languages. These are provided thanks to the help of many fine people on the Internet. However, because I do not actually speak many of these languages, I cannot promise that the translations are complete or perfect. If you have any changes or corrections you would like to suggest for a particular version, please feel free to contact me and let me know.
Becoming a registered user of DarkSide
If you would like to become a registered user of DarkSide you can do so via the following mechanism.
DarkSide Prices
DarkSide has the following pricing:
･ 1-10 single user licenses, $20 per user.
･ A Site License costs $500 and covered all locations for your organization within a 100 mile (160 kilometer) radius of your site. One big advantage of a Site License is that you do not need to keep track of how many people at your site are using the software.
･ A World-Wide License costs $2500 and it covers all locations for your organization on the planet earth.
Payment mechanism
Paying for DarkSide is fairly simple. Payments are now handled via the Kagi payment service. To register your copy of DarkSide, open the Register program that comes with DarkSide. Enter your name, email address, and the number of single user licenses you desire for DarkSide (or Site or World-Wide licenses). Save or Copy or print the data from the Register program and send the data and payment into Kagi. More specifics follow.
Paying via Credit Card?
If payment is via Credit Card or First Virtual, you can email or fax the data to Kagi. Their email address is sales@kagi.com and their fax number is +1 510 652-6589. You can either Copy the data from Register and past into the body of an email message, or you can Save the data to a file and you can attach that file to an email message. There is no need to compress this file ﾐ it's already quite small. If you have a fax modem, just Print the data to the Kagi fax number.
Payment send via email are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an email acknowledgement when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days, and if you provide a correct internet email address you will receive an email acknowledgement.
Paying via Cash or Check?
If you are paying with Cash or USD Check you should print the data using the Register application and send it to the address showsn on the form, which is:

You can pay with a wide variety of cash from different countries but at present if you pay via check, it must be a check drawn in US Dollars. Kagi cannot accept checks in other currencies, the conversion rate for non-USD checks is around USD 15 per check and that is just not practical.
Paying via a Purchase Order?
If you are a purchasing department, you can enter all of the data into the Register program, and then select Invoice as your payment method. Print three (3) copies of the form and send it to your accounts payable people. You might want to highlight the line that mentions that they must include a copy of the form with their payment. Kagi cannot invoice your company, you need to act on my behalf and generate the invoice and handle all of the paperwork on your end.
A few words about Kagi and payment
I have been a shareware author for some time now, and have also registered many shareware applications that I use. Increasingly, I have seen authors using the Kagi service. Based upon my experience as a user of this service, I chose it as the mechanism for processing payments for DarkSide. I have found them friendly, helpful, and quick to deal with, and hope that you will as well.
Please do not fax or email payment forms that indicate Cash, Check, or Invoice as the payment method. As far as I know, there is no technology to transfer physical objects via fax or email, and without the payment, the form cannot be processed.
Payments sent via postal mail take time to reach Kagi and then up to 10 days for processing. Aagain, if you include a correct email address, you will hear from Kagi when the form is processed.
Note that in the past I would send a floppy disk and printed materials to registered users. Due to the increases in cost and time associated with this, I will no longer mail out printed documentation. I have instead decided to make documentation and updates available via the web site <http://www.poubelle.com/>. I will be continuously updating this site with new information and versions of DarkSide.
